Our friend Tony shared a story which touched our hearts. A missionary couple spent their lives in Africa leading people to Jesus. They were poor, but filled with love, and they grew old in service, their health was failing, and they realized, it was time to come back to the USA to retire...
On their ship returning from Africa to the USA - President Teddy Roosevelt was returning from an African hunting trip.
Awaiting him in harbor was a brass band welcoming the President home with thousands of fans cheering his return!
After he exited the boat, the missionary couple exited - but the band had stopped playing...
And no one was cheering...
And the man lamented to his wife,
“I wish there was a band welcoming us back home.”
She lovingly looked at her husband, and answered,
“Oh honey....we aren’t Home yet!”
For those who sacrifice time, talent and treasure for the love of God and others,
Heaven is “Home.”
We may not get lots of fanfare here...but the cheers from the great saints and Jesus are real, and one day we will hear them clearly.
I spoke with a young man today discerning his future.
He shared that making “lots of money” wasn’t bringing him much joy, and he was contemplating ways he could use his talents for the glory of God - knowing he’d make far less income, but feel far greater joy!
Wow!
What an amazing perspective!
I shared Tony’s story with him...
And the young man smiled....
Truth has a way of doing that!
We know when we hear the truth.
He was just grateful for “confirmation” of what God was speaking into his heart.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Please help all of us hear your leading - and embolden us to follow you.
Even if that means giving something up.
And when our day comes to meet you, let us hear the band welcome us Home, let the great saints welcome us to Heaven, and allow our ears to hear you say,
“Well done, good and faithful servant!”
